The coastal village Dishoek is situated at the dunes at the western part of Walcheren. In a marvelous natural landscape, surrounded by the most beautiful southern beaches of The Netherlands. The beach at Dishoek is large, vast and offers also in high season silence and space. If you like to go out, than you are by bike in no time in the surrounding polders you find the village Koudekerke. At the cosy village square you find lovely sunny terraces where you could enjoy a snack and drink. Further there are different opportunities where you, from very simple tot extended, could eat. For the real holiday feeling it is suitable although to queu in a restaurant, dining café or pancake house.
Beaches
Dishoek is situated in a small, but beautiful strip of nature with dunes and woods, which makes a natural scene for the hinterland. The big sea vessels are sailing along the coast. A wonderful unique view. Utterly suitable for a lovely coast walk or bike tour. You will meet a lot of outer spaces, beautiful Zeeuwse farms, tree orchards and villages.
Beautiful Diskhoekse beaches are at your feet. The rustling breakers and a salty breeze caressing the senses. Each season. Lovely fresh air along the beach line, the kids could swim safely, search for shells and shrimps, kite surfing, building sand castles...
Sightseeing
The nearby situated Zoutelande recommendable: since years a nice family seaside resort where in Summer there is always fun! From ring riding to the weekly tourist market.
A little bit further away is Domburg, traditionally a beloved seaside resort where the elite stayed and where artists were settling down. Or visit Veere. In this little medieval town breathes almost everything a glorious past. Nice ramparts, monuments and a marine give shape to the horizon. Veere is picturesque situated at the Veerse Meer, a vast aquatic sports area.
Different towns are at your fingertips. Vlissingen is with its wide and long boulevard an attraction on its own. The town of Michiel de Ruyter is breathing a maritime atmosphere. You could taste this when you are walking along the quay to the marina, enjoying the view at the Westerschelde and pilotage of the ships. Middelburg is counting 1000 large and smaller monuments. A city walk is taking you along the most surprising spots!
Surroundings
In the immediate vicinity of Dishoek you can make wonderful hikes and cycling trips. Especially the area along the dunes is worth the effort. The region inside (and between) the dunes and the beaches is a wonderful scenic area including picturesque villages, farms, meadows, fields and little narrow polder roads. This region is also known as ‘the garden of Walcheren’. There are various cycling routes through the surrounding area. A footpath goes from Zoutelande to Vlissingen almost without interruption. Enough possibilities to discover the vicinity in a sporty way!
In almost no time you can travel from Dishoek to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen by taking the ferry from Vlissingen. Or you can reach the Flemish monumental cities Brugge and Ghent through the Westerscheldetunnel by car in about an hour driving.
